The Deseret National Bank of Salt Lake City, Utah Territory; Ex. Harry Bass Jr. This is a sensational note and has a lot going on for it. First of all, this is a rare and highly desirable Utah Territorial note. Secondly, according to the census, it is the FINEST KNOWN territorial note for the bank and most likely the reason why it pedigrees to the Harry Bass Jr. collection - purveyor of the finest and rarest numismatic items. A quick glance of the note will reveal its bright colors, solid margins and its exceptional print detail. And arguably, the best characteristic for this exceptional piece is the bold signature of Brigham Young – Prophet, Pioneer, Statesman and the second President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, informally known as the Mormon Church. Brigham Young was an influential pioneer who founded Salt Lake City, was the first Governor of the Provisional State of Deseret and later first Governor of Utah Territory. He was also instrumental in the founding of the University of Utah, Brigham Young University and the Deseret National Bank. PMG comments that the signatures have been redrawn, however we are not totally convinced that is indeed the case and have provided zoomed in images of both signatures so that you can decide for yourself. Regardless, this is a very important Utah rarity that is one of the finest known First Charter Territorial Notes we have handled for all US Territories that also happens to be signed by a very important and influential American pioneer.
