This is essentially a perfect example of our country’s first $5 bill issued for general circulation. Certified SUPERB GEM by PCGS, there is only one example finer. I happen to know where that lone Super Gem 68 is and I can say with certainty that the owner of that note has no plans of selling that note any time soon. Unlike most early five dollar bills, this note is unusually bright as the grade would indicate. Most examples of this type exhibit a toned look where the paper is slightly darkened or seasoned with age. This note however, is the exception. Being tied for the second finest known with PCGS with only 2 other notes, FINER than any example PMG has seen (PMG has not graded an example 67 or higher) and one of the darkest RED SEAL’s we have seen on any note, it will only be a matter of time before this note is placed into its next world class collection.
