1890 Treasury Notes are special for many reasons. Not only are they some of the most beautiful notes to have ever been printed on an intaglio printing press but they are also inherently rare. With a design change within a year’s time, the Treasury Notes of 1890 quickly became a much plainer and simply put boring version Series of 1891 Treasury Notes. Fortunately for us, we still have a handful of high grade examples of the 1890 Ornate Backs to celebrate and revere. Furthermore, a quick review of the population report will reveal that there are only 123 examples for the Friedberg number known.
With ONLY 4 examples graded GEM or higher with both services and this note being tied for the FINEST KNOWN with both services, adding this note to your collection has the potential to be one of the better numismatic decisions one can make.
