Gorgeous 1836 $1 Gobrecht Original PCGS XF40 CAC

SKU: 11225

Availability: In stock

A lightly circulated, original example of the first iteration of the Seated Liberty motif, the Gobrecht Dollar. While these pieces are designated as Proof by both grading services, the 1836 Originals were issued for circulation, and should be collected as such. This specimen is precisely what we look for in a circulated Gobrecht - strict originality, with no distracting marks. For some reason, most Gobrechts (in any grade) have been dipped or cleaned in some way, and the large expense of open field on the obverse seems to attract marks. The present coin is a wonderful exception to the rule, and has better eye appeal than many coins graded 15 points higher.
