1795 S$1 Flowing Hair 2-Leaves B-10 BB-22 PCGS VF30 25-50 Known, Pop=2/5

CU Price Guide = $50,000. Low condition census B-10, BB-22 Flowing Hair dollar - with somewhere between 25 and 50 known examples of this challenging variety, finding a BB-22 dollar in any grade is something of a challenge. Presently, the population report shows a trio of VF35s and two AU58 examples; however, Bowers reports only one specimen above VF, suggesting that the pair of AU58s are probably the same coin (the Granberg/Boyd/Bareford specimen). A virtually unobtainable variety: the last public sale of any example graded VF or higher was in 2011!

Description / 1795 S$1 Flowing Hair 2-Leaves B-10 BB-22 PCGS VF30 25-50 Known, Pop=2/5

The Flowing Hair type dollar was was only  produced for two years, with a combined mintage of only 162,053 pieces.

BB-22 is among the most challenging varieties for 1795. The numeral 7 is repunched over a 1 on the obverse, and there is an outer berry below C and an inner below the final A in AMERICA on the reverse. The present specimen's surfaces are exceptionally clean for the assigned grade, and exhibit beautiful gunmetal and lavender toning, with a thin layer of gold toning overlaying the reverse. The strike is full, exhibiting nearly complete dentilation around both sides, which is unusual for the variety. There are no visible adjustment marks on either side, a plus for collectors who prefer a well-produced coin.

Despite its grade, this example shows nearly complete feather details on both of the eagle's wings, as well as its tail. The only marks of any significance are a trio of miniscule (the largest is perhaps a third of a millimeter) rim bumps on the obverse. A truly exceptional coin for the assigned grade.
